Random DVD/Movie Review-"Little Dorritt"
"Little Dorrit"
2008
BBC/Masterpiece Theater
Wonderful, intricate and well-acted this BBC adaptation of a lesser known Dickens novel kept mewanting more. Like a soap opera serial, this TV miniseries was broken up into 14 easily digestible episodes complete with cliffhangers at the end of each. "Little Dorrit " has all the elements of a soap opera-fascinating characters, mystery, melodrama and many different plot twists. "Little Dorrit" tells the story of Amy Dorrit and her family whose lives are intertwined with many other colorful characters on an epic journey from the Marshalsea debtors' prison in London (where Amy's father has been locked up for over twenty years) to France and Italy. We also meet the Clennams, whom Amy works for-formidable Mrs. Clennam and her amiable son Arthur whose family is somehow intertwined with the Dorrits along with other colorful characters. With themes including debt, family secrets, and redemption, this story is just as relevant now as it was in Dicken's time.
If you like period dramas, this movie will not disappoint.
